Tamralipta Mahavidyalaya popularly called and known as Tamluk College, is situated in the Head quarter of Purba Medinipur district, namely Tamluk, which is definitely a place of much historical importance and played a significant role in the freedom movement of the country. Shahid Matangini Hazra devoted herself to the cause of nation from this historical Tamluk. It is often believed that Hein Sang visited this place to signify its historical importance.

Since the foundation in 1948 by the dedicated sincere and concerted efforts of a number of Educationists, Patriots and enthusiastic people from all walks of life, the leading role of which was taken by widely respected Late Srutinath Chakraborty, the college has been offering higher education among the students mostly coming from semi-literate, rural first generation-learner sections of the community.
